A look Inside my Client Website Customization Process

My website customization packages take between 8 -10 weeks to complete depending on the pack the client selects. When a client signs on and pays their deposit they will receive a questionnaire for them to fill out. This will be due before I get started on the project. I recently shared with you my client onboarding process which you can read here. Most of the stages below take at least 2 weeks each. Sometimes it goes faster if the client is very active during the project.

Content & Visual Strategy

Within the first week of working with a client, we will dive into what the ultimate goal of their website is. Most of this information will come from the answers they gave in the questionnaire. From here I will determine how to move forward best with their project, determine the best lead magnet for their brand and what platforms/software they should be using.

Inform Stage

During this stage is where I will finalize the client’s lead magnet design. During the first two weeks of the project, the client is responsible for providing the information for the lead magnet. Once the design is complete a mini promo pack will be created for the client to publish on their social media page(s). This stage is also where I will set up the client’s coming soon landing page with their mailing list call to action.

Website Mockup & Customization

The client should of 100% completed their questionnaire before I begin this section along with having submitted all their copy for the website. I truly don’t enjoy building websites around dummy content because it makes the design different when it’s time to add the actual real content.

The first mockup design I will work on will be the homepage once we have perfected that design with the client I will move onto the other pages. Because I’m using ClickUp to share these files with the client they can leave their feedback and change requests right within ClickUp.

Once we have nailed the mockups I will then transfer the design over to either WordPress or Squarespace and build the site from there. Using Squarespace to build websites includes a lot of custom coding so this sometimes takes a bit longer to complete than using a WordPress theme.

Site Review

I give the client an entire week to look over the website and leave any feedback. During the course of the week, I will go in and make some of the changes they have requested on time. It gives the client a chance to come back to the website another day instead of reviewing the entire website all in one day.

Some things to I tell my clients to look for:

>> How your header text and images appear on mobile, tablet, and phone.
>> Check for any spelling or grammar errors throughout the site.
>> Information on the website is easy to find, clear, and understandable to your audience.
>> Easy navigation between pages.

Launch Pack

At this point, the website design is essentially complete but the overall strategy isn’t. During this week I work on the designs for the client’s website launch. This includes social media graphics, videos, and other collaterals we agreed upon at the beginning of the project. I also provide the client with social media branding guidelines for when they are creating future graphics using the templates I’ve provided.

Client Send Off & Follow Up

Once I get to the end of the project with the client I don’t just send them off just so. I compile all the client’s files related to the project in one folder. I also create a video showing them how to make simple updates from the backend of their new website along with a website guide. The client will have access to the CRM for 3 months after the project ends. After this period is when I will follow up with the client to see how their website is doing and if they need any further assistance.
