6 Office must-haves for creatives

Working from home? Times are changing and working from home is the new norm. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be as fancy as if you were to head into your office. In this post, you’ll find six must-haves for creatives to have in their home office.

Laptop or Computer

The first thing is first you’ll need a laptop or computer. Quite honestly it doesn’t matter what laptop/computer you have as long as it can run the software that you’ll be using in your design business and has sufficient storage. I’m currently using my MacBook Pro with an HP external monitor. My goal for this year is to upgrade my monitor to an iMac.

Drawing Tablet or iPad

Love for illustrations or adding unique elements to your designs? This one is for you! I recommend a drawing tablet for those that are full illustrators. If you aren’t an illustrator an iPad is great to have to add your handwriting or elements. If you’ve decided on an iPad or already have one adding an apple pencil will make your drawings so much easier.

External Hard Drive

Laptops and Computers don’t come with hardly enough space at an affordable price. This is where an external hard drive comes into play. If you’re editing videos as well, I always recommend editing videos from an external hard drive. Below are a few options you can add to your office collection. 

Ring Light for Videos

If you enjoy recording videos for social media or your website, adding a ring light will give your videos added lighting. You can also use these for video conferencing with clients. 

Microphone for Recordings

Starting a podcast or wanting additional audio when recording your courses? Adding a microphone to your office will give your records an extra edge by reducing the echo sounds when you record. If you’re just a causal audio recorder then the Snowball will be best for you.

Laptop or Computer Stand

A laptop or computer stand will help you maintain great posture when sitting at your desk for most of the day. My personal favorite is ELLOVEN Monitor Stand from Ikea, plus it has a pull-out draw for extra storage and space underneath to store a keyboard.
